ISO 9001 2000 has replaced the old ISO 9001 1994 standard. If you’re ISO 9001 certified, then you have to update your quality management system in order to meet the new ISO 9001 2000 requirements.

If you are ISO 9002 or ISO 9003 certified, then you should have to look for ISO 9001 2000 certified. ISO 9000 is popularly becoming the most important quality standard. Thousands of companies in over 100 countries have already adopted it, and many more are in the process of doing so. The reason is it is money saving, producing quality as per customers requirment.

ISO’s purpose is to facilitate international trade by providing a single set of standards that people everywhere would recognize and respect.

ISO 9000 is a set of Quality Standards. It has three quality standards-
1. ISO 9000:2005
2. ISO 9001:2000
3. ISO 9004:2000
ISO 9001:2000 presents requirements, while ISO 9000:2005 and ISO 9004:2000 present guidelines.
Generally there are two approach for implementation of quality-
1.
Gap Analysis
2. System Development Plan
Gap Analysis- is used to upgrade to the new ISO 9001 2000 standard. A Gap Analysis will tell you exactly what you need to do to meet the ISO 9001 2000 Quality Management Standard. It will help you identify the gaps that exist between the new ISO Standard and your organization’s processes. Once you know where the gaps are, you can take steps to fill your gaps. By following approach, you will not only acomplished with the new ISO 9001 Standard, but you will also improve the overall performance of your organization’s processes.
System Development Plan- Also refferd as ISO 9001 2000 Process Oriented Quality Management System Development Plan, in this when your quality management system has been fully developed and implemented, you carry out an Internal Audit to ensure that you’ve met every single ISO 9001 2000 requirement.

if your quality system has met ISO’s requirements. ISO Bodies will  issue an official certificate to you and they will record your achievement in their registry. Or an independent external auditor’s comments can also be effective in this regard.
